Another hot day, followed by a cool front

Highs today once again will be in the mid 90s with heat index values in the upper 90s and lower 100s, according to the National Weather Service.

A cool front moving into the region from the northwest this evening will result in thunderstorm chances overnight into early Friday, the weather service said.

Strong winds may accompany the strongest storms and the front itself, according to the weather service. Temperatures will drop in the 70s Friday and Saturday behind the front.

Today, the weather service advises residents to drink plenty of water and stay cool. The high will be near 93 with heat index values as high as 98, the weather service said. A south southwest wind of 10 to 15 mph will increase to 16 to 21 mph in the afternoon, gusting as high as 32 mph.

Tonight, there is a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., then showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 66 with a south wind of 7 to 16 mph becoming west northwest after midnight and gusting up to 29 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Friday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and storms, mainly before 7 a.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 70 with a north wind of 8 to 11 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Friday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 52 and a northeast wind of 7 to 9 mph, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny with a high near 72, the weather service said, and an east northeast wind of 7 mph.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 53, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny with a high near 78, the weather service said.

Sunday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 62, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 79, the weather service said.

Monday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers, with a low of 63, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers, with a high near 73, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers, with a low of 54, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, the high will be near 70 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.
