The annual International Lineman’s Rodeo competition will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame near 126th and State Avenue in Bonner Springs, Kansas.
Competition begins at 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19.
Team and apprentice events will include the “hurtman rescue” and the “pole climb.” More than 1,000 participants from utilities throughout the nation and from other countries will test their skills in these events.
There will be food and crafts vendors. Admission is free and open to the public
Seven linemen from the Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Public Utilities plan to participate in the linemen contests. They include Eric Ferguson, David Shore, David Westfall, Jake Janes, Bryan Eisman, Marco Aranda and Trenton Overton.
Thousands of utility professionals will be in town this weekend for an annual trade show and expo in Overland Park, Kansas, with the lineman competition at the Ag Hall. An awards banquet will be held at the Overland Park Convention Center at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The lineman’s rodeo focuses on safety and safe work practices, while recognizing technical craft skills of utility linemen. Another focus of the event is to have fun while sharing work knowledge with others in their trade from different companies and different parts of the country.
