Animal adoptions to be by appointment only
Kansas City, Kansas, Animal Services has made changes to adoption process, operating hours and calls for service, in response to COVID-19, according to an announcement.
To comply with directives from the Unified Government to increase social distancing, staffing on-site is being reduced, according to the announcement. There will be enough staff available to feed, clean and provide enrichment for the animals, a spokesman stated.
Beginning today, adoptions will be by appointment only. To schedule an adoption appointment, call 913-321-1445. Adoption appointments will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to the spokesman.
Every animal that is adopted will help create a space for another homeless animal, according to the spokesman, who stated it is a good time to adopt.
The administrative office will be open with limited staffing to facilitate reunions, according to the spokesman. Hours of operation may change in the future.
Residents are asked to renew city licenses online at www.kckpd.org/licensing.html.
Animal Services officers still will respond to calls for service in the community, based on priority-level response, according to the spokesman. Priority is given to calls associated with rabies quarantine, bite investigation, and aggressive or injured animal calls.
The Animal Services spokesman recommended that those who find a stray animal post a photo or description on social media in an effort to help reunite the animal with the owner. One such resource is Wyandotte County Lost and Found Pets group on Facebook.
If residents are unable to locate an owner, call Animal Services, according to the spokesman. The report will be placed on a wait list. As animals are placed and spots open, they will contact the next person on the list.
