While completing project work on the westbound I-70 bridge over Quarry Road, crews were removing pavement from the bridge approaches and encountered complications with the base and subgrade beneath the existing pavement.
The Kansas Department of Transportation and the contractor are working to resolve these issues in a timely manner so that work can resume on the project, keeping it on schedule for the overall completion date in early September 2016, weather permitting, a KDOT spokesman said.
The traffic control over the bridge can’t be removed for the safety of the traveling public until this work is finished.
The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, take it slow, and slow down when approaching and driving through the project work zone.

Project work is scheduled to be completed in early September 2016, weather permitting, the spokesman said.
