About 450 BPU customers without electricity

The Board of Public Utilities has restored power to 98 percent of the 21,000 customers who had sustained outages, according to a BPU spokesman.

BPU now has restored power to 98 percent of the 21,000 customers who were without power as a result of a Saturday evening storm, the spokesman stated.

More than 40 crews are trying to get all power restored to everyone they can by sometime this evening, according to the spokesman.

There are some customers whose meters were pulled off the homes in the storm, who must now contact a licensed electrician for repairs before power can be restored, the spokesman added.

Initially during the storm, the BPU had 21,000 customers out and in a short time got it down to 14,000, and have continued working to get power restored, the spokesman stated.

There are triple the number of crews on the job working than they normally have, and efforts are being concentrated in the Stony Point area, according to the spokesman.

The BPU is also monitoring the weather as weather forecasters say another storm is possible late this evening, the spokesman stated.

  1. While I commend the crews working to restore power to those without, I wonder how it’s determined which areas are serviced first. We’ve been without power since late Saturday night and still have no service and no idea when it will be available. Calls to the BPU outage line yields no results. The power line is down in my backyard, however we were told there was no indication of a power outage in our area.
