Hot, humid weather continues today, heat advisory in effect

A heat advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Thursday, as hot and humid conditions continues, according to the National Weather Service.

This afternoon, temperatures may reach a high of 96 with a heat index reading as high as 105, the weather service said.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors, according to the weather service.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in a vehicle, the weather service said.

Those who work outdoors or spend time outdoors should take extra precautions, rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening, the weather service said.

Shower and thunderstorm chances will return Sunday as a front moves into the area, according to the weather service.

Today, it will be sunny with a high near 96 and heat index values as high as 105, the weather service said. A south wind will be 5 to 9 mph.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 75 and a south southeast wind of 6 to 10 mph, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be sunny, with a high near 94 and a heat index as high as 101, the weather service said. A south southwest wind of 7 to 15 mph will gust as high as 22 mph.

Friday night, it will be clear, with a low of 75 and a south wind of 7 to 14 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny, with a high near 93 and a south wind of 7 to 11 mph, gusting to 22 mph, the weather service said.

Saturday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m., with a low of 73, according to the weather service.

Sunday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 89.

Monday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m., with a high near 88, the weather service said.
