Wyandotte County Fair continues

Saturday, July 17, will be the last day of the Wyandotte County Fair. The fair will be open from 2 p.m. to midnight Saturday, with carnival rides from 6 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $5 per person, with ages 12 and younger free. Parking is $5. Events at the fair today include the Wyandotte County Fair Rodeo at 7 p.m.; a hot rod and antique car show at 5 p.m. in the Show arena; a pie contest from 10 a.m. to noon in the Red Barn; live music entertainment at the Main Stage and Shade Pavilion; magic show; and Mr. Stinky Feet.

Silent auction and viewing planned today

A silent auction and viewing is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Urban Station, 101 N. 14th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Artist Rita Blitt has donated four paintings to support Urbanworks projects.

Democrats to meet Saturday

Democratic candidates on the Aug. 3 primary ballot are invited to speak at the Wyandotte County Democratic Breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Jalisco’s restaurant, 5000 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The doors will open at 8 a.m., with the meeting beginning at 9 a.m. Primary candidates who speak must be registered Democratic voters. Admission is free, and the meeting is open to Democrats. Doughnuts, coffee, milk and juice are being provided. Mayor and sheriff candidates will be given five minutes each to speak. Commission candidates will have four minutes, and other candidates, three minutes.

Farmers Market open


The KCK Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Merc Co-Op parking lot, 501 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

‘Christmas in July’ at Wyandotte County Lake


The “Christmas in July” celebration is scheduled at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Wyandotte County Lake, 91st and Leavenworth Road, at the lake marina. A fishing derby from 5-6 p.m. will be followed by pontoon boat judging at 6 p.m. and a boat parade at 8:30 p.m. with fireworks to follow. Music is planned.

Monarchs play at home tonight


The Kansas City Monarchs, on a six-game winning streak, will play Kane County in the second game of a home series at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Legends Field. The gates will open at 5 p.m. Ticket information is at monarchsbaseball.com.
