Severe thunderstorm watch in effect

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect in Wyandotte County until 10 p.m. Saturday, July 10, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch includes Wyandotte, Johnson and Leavenworth counties in Kansas, and Clinton, Clay, Jackson and Platte counties in Missouri.

At 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Easton, and near Leavenworth, moving southeast at 25 mph, the weather service said.

Nickel-sized hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm, according to the weather service.

Residents are advised that the storm may intensify, so they should monitor weather reports for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
