Richard Mabion of Kansas City, Kansas, will be the guest speaker at a Juneteenth event Friday to be held by the Kansas attorney general’s office in Topeka.
The Kansas attorney general’s Office will hold a Juneteenth commemoration event this Friday, June 18, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Memorial Hall, second floor auditorium, 120 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas.
Juneteenth, also known as “Freedom Day,” is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Attorney General Derek Schmidt held a similar event in 2019. No event was held in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event will feature guest speaker Mabion, who is a Vietnam veteran, an award-winning entrepreneur and a leader in sustainability efforts.
Before the lecture, there will be a reception with individually wrapped refreshments and bottled water. The event is open to the public.
