Severe thunderstorm warning issued from now until 4 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued from now until 4 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.


Severe thunderstorms were located at 2:52 p.m. along a line extending from near Dearborn to 6 miles southwest of Tonganoxie, moving east at 35 mph, the weather service said.

The storm has 70 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, according to the weather service.

Hail damage to vehicles is expected, according to the weather service. Considerable tree damage should be expected, and wind damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs and outbuildings, the weather service said.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building, the weather service said.

The severe thunderstorm warning also is in effect for southeastern Leavenworth County and Johnson County, as well as for the surrounding area.
