Rare April snow blankets area, adds hazards to traffic

About two inches of snow fell last night and Tuesday morning in Wyandotte County.

A rare April snow fell overnight and Tuesday morning in Wyandotte County.

Around 2 inches of snow fell in some areas of the county.

Traffic was affected, with KC Scout reporting on Twitter that northbound I-635 was closed to the north of Wyandotte County. because of an accident around 6:55 a.m. Accidents were reported at K-5, and also at Horizons Parkway. The highway was closed in both directions from Horizons Parkway in Missouri.

The winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The snow may continue until noon, with more rain after noon, the National Weather Service forecast said.

A freeze warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to the weather service.
