Two residents jump out of second-story window to escape fire

Two residents jumped out of a second-story window on Sunday morning to escape a fire at 1926 N. 14th St.

The two residents had minor burns and were taken to a hospital by EMS, according to Scott Schaunaman, Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department spokesman and battalion chief.

One firefighter also was injured, according to the spokesman. A porch collapsed, injuring the firefighter. The firefighter, who had a broken foot, was taken to a hospital, the spokesman stated.

The fire was reported around 7:36 a.m. Sunday.

The house, near 14th and Troup, had been converted into four apartments, and it suffered significant damage from the fire, according to Schaunaman.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he stated.
