Good Samaritan dies while checking on injured driver

A Good Samaritan who was checking on an injured driver died about 3:04 a.m. Sunday, March 14, near the 5900 block of Nogard, according to a police spokesman.

Officers who responded to the accident found two separate crashes involving three vehicles and one fatality, the spokesman stated.

A Good Samaritan who stopped to check on the driver of the SUV was standing next to the vehicle when it was struck again, this time by a pickup, the spokesman stated. The impact of that crash killed the Good Samaritan, a female in her late 50s, the spokesman stated.

The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the spokesman stated.

The driver of the pickup was taken into custody, according to police.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department Traffic Division is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477), the spokesman stated.
