Six stolen bases help Blue Devils defeat Barton, 9-4

Kansas City Kansas Community College added speed to solid pitching and effective hitting in a 9-4 win over Barton County Friday.

The Blue Devils parlayed six stolen bases with the combined 5-hit pitching of three hurlers in boosting their record to 3-1 heading into a doubleheader with Barton at noon Saturday.

Parker Weddle worked the first four innings, allowing no runs and two hits while striking out five and walking three. Chase Terrell also gave up just two hits but one was a 3-run home run by Connor Allen with none out in the seventh inning. Eli Tormes came on in relief, allowing one hit, walking one and fanning one in three strong innings.

Palmer Hutchinson belted a 2-run home run and singled and Caleb Adams doubled in two runs and stole three bases to lead the Blue Devils. Raymond Paniagua also swiped a pair of bases.

The Blue Devils combined six of their eight hits and six stolen bases to score all of their runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

KCKCC jumped in front 2-0 in the second, scoring on singles by Brendyn Bard and Camden Karlin after a walk and stolen bases by Paniagua and Bard and then added three runs in the third on just two hits, a double by Cole Dawson to start the inning and a run-scoring single by Brayden Vawter sandwiched around Adams’ three stolen bases

The Blue Devils opened a 9-0 lead with four runs in the fourth. Adams doubled in the first two and Hutchinson followed with his 2-run round tripper.
