Winter storm winding down

A winter storm was winding down on Friday afternoon, Jan. 1, after leaving almost 5 inches of snow in Wyandotte County.

Temperatures reached 32 degrees at 3 p.m. before falling to 31 degrees at 4 p.m.

Several accidents were reported on area highways during the day.

An accident was reported at 3:22 p.m. Jan. 1 on northbound I-435 near State Avenue, according to KC Scout.

Earlier in the day, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported an injury-accident at 5:50 a.m. Jan. 1 on northbound I-35, north of 18th Street, according to a trooper’s report.

According to the trooper’s report, a Kia Optima was traveling from the 18th Street ramp to northbound I-35 when it lost control and struck the median barrier. The driver, a 19-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, woman, was unconscious when troopers arrived and was taken to a hospital with a possible minor injury, the report stated.

In another injury-accident at 11:29 a.m. Jan. 1 on westbound I-70 near 18th, a 2008 Mercedes-Benz was westbound on I-70 near 18th Street when it lost control and spun 180 degrees, according to the trooper’s report. A 2010 Audi then struck it.

The Mercedes-Benz driver, a 35-year-old Leavenworth man, had a possible minor injury, according to the report.

The Audi driver, a 39-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, had a possible minor injury and was taken to the hospital, according to the report. A 37-year-old male passenger and a 33-year-old woman passenger had possible minor injuries, and were taken to a hospital, the report stated.

The BPU outage map was not showing any power outages on Friday.
