KCK police officer shot, has non-life-threatening injury

A Kansas City, Kansas, police officer was shot on Tuesday afternoon and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to a police spokesman.

The officer, who was injured in the arm, was taken to a hospital. The suspect fled, according to authorities.

The officer had been pursuing the suspect on suspicion of being involved in an earlier hit-and-run accident, according to the spokesman. Stopping at the county line, the officer got out of the vehicle, then the suspect stopped and got out of a vehicle. The two exchanged gunfire.

The shooting occurred on County Line Road, the border between Wyandotte and Johnson counties. Authorities believe the shooting may have happened in Johnson County.

The suspect’s vehicle was found near 42nd and Metropolitan Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, according to the spokesman.
