Victim of homicide on Troup Avenue identified

The victim of a fatal stabbing in the 2200 block of Troup has been identified, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman.

The victim was T. Thompson Stephenson, 45, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, according to police.

Police were called to Troup Avenue about 10:33 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, and found the stabbing victim outside, who was taken to a hospital, where he died, police stated.

The suspect fled but was taken into custody without incident after a vehicle pursuit assisted by the Kansas Highway Patrol, the police spokesman stated.

The suspect, Gerald Chatman, 41, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, has been charged with intentional second-degree murder and fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer, according to the police spokesman. He is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Major Case Unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, according to the spokesman.
