Chance of strong storms tonight coming from north

There is a 50 percent chance of storms tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

A line of storms will move south from Nebraska into Kansas later today, pushing into northeast Kansas late this evening, the weather service said. The primary threats will be strong winds and hail.

The storms will weaken as the line pushes southeast overnight, according to the weather service. Areas including Topeka and St. Joseph, Missouri, are in the path of the storm, while the Kansas City area may not be affected as much.

Cooler temperatures are expected next week, with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s next Monday through Wednesday, the weather service said.

Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s on Friday, with the heat index in the mid to upper 90s.

Today, it will be sunny with a high near 90 and a heat index as high as 95, the weather service said. An east southeast wind will be 6 to 8 mph.

Tonight, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 a.m., with a low of 70, according to the weather service. A southeast wind of 6 mph will become light and variable. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 a.m., with a high near 83, the weather service said. A north wind will be 8 to 10 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is forecast.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 60 and a north northeast wind of 6 mph becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny with a high near 85 and a calm wind, the weather service said.
