A flash flood warning has been issued for eastern Wyandotte County from 2:04 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 28. A flood warning also was issued for east central Wyandotte County.
The warning also is in place for some surrounding counties.
The weather service said radar and gauges indicated thunderstorms were producing heavy rain across the area.
Three to four inches of rain have fallen, and flash flooding is expected to begin shortly, the weather service said.
The weather service said to expect flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage and low-lying areas.
Motorists are advised to turn around when encountering flooded roads and take another route. Most deaths occur in vehicles, the weather service said.
The National Weather Service also issued a flood warning for east central Wyandotte County until 6:15 p.m.
Small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low-lying spots may flood, according to the weather service.
