Thunderstorms possible today

A 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms is in today’s forecast, with a high near 66, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain and storms are in the forecast from now through Saturday night, according to the weather service.

Tonight, strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible in the region, the weather service said. Hail will be the primary threat, but damaging winds and heavy rain also are possible.

Wyandotte County appears to be at greater risk for strong to severe storms on Thursday, according to the weather service. A tornado may be possible, along with hail and damaging winds.

More thunderstorms will be possible Friday through Sunday, but no severe weather is expected on the weekend, the weather service said.

Periods of heavy rain are possible through Saturday, which could cause flooding, according to the weather service.

Today, there is a 40 percent chance of precipitation, including a chance of drizzle and thunderstorms before 4 p.m., then a slight chance of drizzle between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., then a slight chance of drizzle and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. The high will be near 66 with an east southeast wind of 7 to 10 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Tonight, there is a 50 percent chance of drizzle and thunderstorms before 7 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 7 p.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 65 with a south southeast wind of 9 to 14 mph, gusting as high as 18 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Thursday, there is a 90 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 77 with a south southwest wind of 8 to 15 mph, gusting as high as 21 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is expected.

Thursday night, there is a 70 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 62 with a southwest wind of 5 to 9 mph becoming calm in the evening. Between a half and three-quarters of an inch of rain is possible.

Friday, there is an 80 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 76 with a calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Friday night, there is an 80 percent chance of rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then rain and thunderstorms likely after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 63. New rainfall amounts of a quarter to a half-inch are possible.

Saturday, there is a 70 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, with a high near 76, the weather service said.

Saturday night, there is a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, with a low of 59, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 76, the weather service said.

Sunday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 56, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be sunny, with a high near 79, the weather service said.
