Severe thunderstorm warning issued

A severe thunderstorm warning has been extended until 11 a.m. Monday for Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.

At 10:15 a.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Bonner Springs, moving east at 45 mph. The storm has 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail.

At 9:39 a.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Williamstown, or 7 miles northwest of Lawrence, moving east at 45 mph, the weather service said.

The storm may include 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail, the weather service said.

The Board of Public Utilities reported 559 customers without power about 11:19 a.m. Monday.

Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Wind damage to roofs, siding and trees is possible, the weather service said.

Also under the severe thunderstorm warning are southern Leavenworth County and northwestern Johnson County, the weather service stated.

For their protection, residents should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building, the weather service said.
