A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect from 10:30 p.m. March 26 through 5 a.m. March 27, according to the National Weather Service.
At 10:40 p.m., Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Vinland or Baldwin City, Kansas, moving northeast at 50 mph, the weather service said.
Nickel-size hail and winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with this storm, the weather service said.
Southern Wyandotte County, Edwardsville, and Kansas City, Kansas, may be in the path of the storm.
Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm, according to the weather service. Lightning may strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Residents are advised to seek shelter inside a building or vehicle, the weather service said.
Most of the storm appears to be south of I-70, according to a radar map.
