Rain expected to continue to fall throughout day in area

Rain was not invited to the Columbus Day federal holiday today, but it showed up anyway.

Today’s forecast from the National Weather Service calls for rain, possibly a thunderstorm, and a high near 58.

The wind will be from the north at 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Tonight’s forecast calls for occasional rain and a low around 50. Showers and rain are predicted throughout the day and evening.

If the Royals American League championship game is not rained out tonight, winds could be a factor. Winds will be from the north northwest from 18 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.

The major slow-moving storm system will affect the area through early Wednesday. The National Weather Service said there could be localized minor flooding in poor drainage areas.

Tuesday’s forecast includes a chance of rain before 1 p.m. It will be partly sunny with a high near 61. Winds will be north northwest from 18 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph.

Tuesday night, skies will be mostly clear, with a low around 45. North northwest winds will be 8 to 14 mph with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Wednesday, skies will be sunny, with a high near 63. Wednesday night, skies will be mostly clear, with a low around 46.

Thursday, look for sunny skies and a high of 69.
