History lecture

Author Tim Rives, right, a historian, signed a copy of his book, “The Ku Klux Klan in Kansas City, Kansas,” after a history lecture on Monday night at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave. Frank Simonich, left, was one of more than 40 persons attending the lecture. The book is about the rise of the Klan in the 1920s in Kansas City, Kansas, and how it controlled the city for about 30 years. During a dialogue with the audience, Rives limited his remarks to the period of time he researched. There were several viewpoints expressed during the dialogue, and mayoral candidate Janice Witt said she hoped that the dialogue would improve the community’s understanding of their differences.
