The Kansas City Pet Project received a $5,000 grant recently because of a winning essay from Kenny Yarnevich, a Kansas City, Kansas, resident.
Petco Foundation’s Holiday Wishes campaign awarded a total of $875,000 in grants nationwide this holiday season, according to a spokesman.
Yarnevich, a graduate of Bishop Ward High School and Rockhurst College, wrote an entry about his adopted dog, Fab, and how it brightens his life. Yarnevich had a “Queer Eye” makeover in 2018, when he was grieving the loss of his dog, Bo. The “Queer Eye” team helped him adopt a new dog from the Kansas City Pet Project.
As part of the winning prize package, Yarnevich received a $100 shopping spree at Petco, plus BOBS from Skechers shoes and pet accessories.
“Adopting Fab was truly the cherry on top of my-once-in-a-lifetime week with the Fab Five, and I’m forever grateful for their passion for helping me find my new self and a new buddy — all at the age of 64,” Yarnevich wrote in his essay.

Well done, Kenny! So glad Fab came into your life.
