Cat caretaker event planned
KCK Pet Help Program, the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City and the Rescue Project are sponsoring a KCK Community Cat Caretaker open house from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, 5445 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas. Those who would like to take care of community cats can pick up free cat food to feed the colony, free cat shelters and straw bedding for the winter, and learn how to trap, neuter and return cats, at no cost.

Tree decorating for wildlife planned
A nature storytime and tree decorating for wildlife are planned from 10 a.m.. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library, 4051 West Drive, Kansas City, Kansas. The library is within the Wyandotte County Lake Park at 91st and Leavenworth Road. Those attending will read “Night Tree,” by Eve Bunting, and then go outdoors to decorate a tree with nuts, berries, seeds and dried fruits for wildlife. Then hot chocolate will be served indoors. Family storytime planned
Family storytime is planned from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, youth services craft room, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Those attending will read stories, dance and sing. The story time is geared to ages 2 to 6.

Gingerbread house project planned
Children and teens may build a gingerbread house during a program from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the South Branch Library, storytime room, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The library will provide the supplies, while the participants will create the design. Registration is required in this class, which is limited to 20 persons.

Winter craft party planned
A winter holiday craft party is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the West Wyandotte Library, craft room, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kansas. The event is for children and teens ages 3-14. Those attending will make ornaments and necklaces. Hot cocoa and cookies will be available.

KCK orchestra to perform
The Kansas City, Kansas, Community Orchestra is scheduled to perform from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Christmas at Union Station celebration, 30 W. Perishing Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Holiday music will be performed at this free event.
