The youth group at Sunset Hills Christian Church, 6347 Leavenworth Road, recently joined with some community policing officers to pack homeless care kits.

The youth sought contributions from the congregation to fill the bags with needed items that can be distributed by police officers who may encounter homeless persons, according to the group’s sponsor, Anne Porter.

Such items as water, gloves, socks and handkerchiefs are in the kits, she said. About 30 items were in each kit.

Police officers brought other items, from another source, including blankets and large handbags with handles to carry the items.

Officers Jackie Lynn, Steve Kopp and Carl Rowland participated in the effort.

Porter said there were about 30 homeless care kits assembled on Dec. 8 that will be distributed to homeless persons.
