Santa’s Express Country Christmas to be Saturday and Sunday at Ag Hall

Santa’s Express will return to the National Agricultural Hall of Fame and National Center, 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15. Highlights of the event are a picture taken with Santa in the museum; local children’s choirs singing in the theater; hot chocolate, cookies and hay rides; riding the train around Farm Town; and exploring the winter wonderland of Christmas trees. Admission to the event is $5 per car. The 5K run and 1-mile Reindeer Walk at 9 a.m. Dec. 14 are an additional charge. Doughnuts with Santa planned

Doughnuts with Santa is planned from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Kensington Community Center, 2800 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Activities and refreshments are planned.

Craft fair planned

A Craft and Vendor Extravaganza is planned from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at 15774 Linwood Road, Bonner Springs. The event is sponsored by Elm Grove Baptist Church.

Program planned at Grinter Place

A program on “The James and Younger Boys” will be presented by David Meditz at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Grinter Place, 1420 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Doughnuts, coffee and juice will be provided.

Children’s book sale planned
The Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas, will have a children’s book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the youth services craft room on the second floor. The sale also is planned on Sunday. Gently used children’s and teens’ books will be available. Hardbacks will be $1 each and paperbacks, two for $1, or a bag of books will be $5. “Kids Bucks” earned in the library’s summer reading program can be used toward the purchase of book sale items.

Story time with Santa Claus planned
Story time with Santa Claus will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 14, at the craft room at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave. Favorite holiday stories and songs will be featured. Children will make a tree ornament. At the end of the event, there will be an opportunity to take a photo with Santa. This event is geared to children and teens.

Holiday at the Apollo event planned

The Holiday at the Apollo annual meeting and benefit gala of Friends of Yates will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Ticket information is available online at https://www.facebook.com/events/1385138708316853/.

Meet an author at library

Author Lila Johnson, a native of Kansas City, Kansas, who has written four novels, will meet readers from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Café area at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave. Johnson has written the Fat Girls Club series. The first 30 people attending will receive a free signed copy of one of her novels.

Lupe Gonzalez Orchestra exhibit program to be at museum

The Lupe M. González Orchestra Story Exhibit Program will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Wyandotte County Museum in Wyandotte County Park, 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs. A curator talk with Dr. Gene Chavez will be presented at 2 p.m. Music and refreshments will follow. The exhibit, “Music Is My First Love,” includes photos, newspaper stories and music from Gonzalez’s career. This is a bilingual exhibit. The exhibit runs at the museum through Feb. 22.

Caroling at the Alcott planned
Classic Christmas carols will be sung from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Those attending should bundle up for this event. Coffee, hot chocolate and cookies will be served, and anyone attending may bring more refreshments. The Alcott Arts Center is not yet ADA accessible.

KCKCC men’s basketball planned Saturday

The KCKCC men will play Southwestern Iowa at 4 p.m. Saturday at the KCKCC fieldhouse, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

Dance planned

Christmas in Kolograd Dance, held by St. John Catholic Club, will be held after the 5:15 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Dec. 14. The dance will be at St. John the Baptist auditorium, 414 Barnett, Kansas City, Kansas. Music will be by Orchestra Barca. Tickets will be $10, adults; and free for children 12 and younger. The admission price includes dessert featuring povitica from MeMa’s Bakery and Strawberry Hill Povitica. Cobanac, sausage sandwiches, beer and soda will be available for purchase.

KC Roller Warriors in action

The KC Roller Warriors will be in action from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Memorial Hall, 600 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas. It will be a doubleheader. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 6 to 12. Age 5 and under are free with a paid admission.
