Jury convicts man of first-degree murder

A Wyandotte County District Court jury this afternoon convicted Marcus G. Butler, 25, Leavenworth, of first-degree murder, attempted aggravated robbery, and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

The conviction was in connection with the Jan. 9, 2013, shooting death of Matthew Gibson in the 8200 block of Monroe Drive in Kansas City, Kan.

According to the district attorney’s office, Gibson’s death occurred during a robbery of drugs and money at a residence.

Sentencing is set for 3 p.m. Nov. 24 in Division 9 of the district court.

Assistant District Attorneys Sean Boyd and Brett Richman prosecuted the case.
