The Topeka Capital-Journal is reporting that Fred W. Phelps Sr., nationally known for anti-gay speech, and pickets of soldiers’ funerals, has died.
Phelps, founder of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, was 84. Phelps ran for governor of Kansas in 1990.
Among the early comments on his death is this one from the Washington Post, “Dry eyes for Fred Phelps” http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2014/03/20/dry-eyes-for-fred-phelps/.
