Kansas City, Kansas, police today identified the suspect in a shooting at State Avenue and Village West Parkway on Tuesday.
The suspect was Charles Pearson, 51, a resident of Johnson County, Kansas, a police spokesman stated.
According to police, Pearson had gone into a hotel at 110th and State Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, and told the staff that he had killed his wife, that he was heavily armed and heading to The Legends Outlets, and to call the police. Police were dispatched to the hotel around 9:42 a.m. Aug. 13.
About 9:54 a.m., police found Pearson south of the intersection at State Avenue and Village West Parkway, where they tried to make contact with him, the police spokesman stated.
At 10:05 a.m., Pearson pointed a gun and fired several shots at officers, who then fatally wounded him, according to the spokesman.
The officers were not injured.
The Kansas City, Kansas, and Topeka police departments are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
According to the Johnson County District Court and jail records, Charles Roy Pearson was booked into the Johnson County Jail on a criminal damage charge in a domestic violence case on Oct. 8, 2018.
In January 2019, Johnson County District Court signed off on a diversion agreement for Pearson, according to court records.
