Kansas City, Kansas, police fatally shot a suspect who pointed a gun at them around 12:51 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, near South Coy Street and Gilmore Avenue.
KCK officers were assisting Kansas City, Missouri, police officers who were chasing a suspect who attempted to run over a police officer, according to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, police department.
The vehicle was pursued until it went the wrong way on I-70, the spokesman stated. The suspect abandoned the car on I-670 and fled on foot.
A Kansas City, Missouri, police helicopter tracked the suspect to the area of Coy and Gilmore where Kansas City, Kansas, police officers made contact, the spokesman stated.
The suspect pointed a gun at officers and was fatally shot, the spokesman stated.
Kansas City, Kansas, and Topeka police departments are conducting a joint investigation of the incident, according to the spokesman. Anyone with information may call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
