Chance of rain in today’s forecast

There is a 50 percent chance of rain and storms in today’s forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible today, mainly after 9 a.m., as scattered storms move across the region.

The heaviest rains will likely be to the west of Miami County and Linn County, the weather service said.

Storm chances will linger Thursday night into Friday morning south of the Missouri River, according to the weather service. Severe weather is not expected with these storms.

More storms are possible Saturday night into Sunday, the weather service said.

The Kansas and Missouri rivers in Wyandotte County are currently below flood stage and below action stage. The Missouri River at Parkville was at 20.23 feet at 7:45 a.m. Aug 8, where flood stage is 25 feet. The Kansas River at 23rd Street was at 23.17 feet at 7:45 a.m. Aug. 8, where the flood stage is 33 feet, according to hydrology charts.

Today, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 9 a.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 81 with a calm wind becoming south southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Between a tenth and quarter inch of rain is possible.

Tonight, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 70 with a light and variable wind. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.

Friday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 a.m., then a slight chance of showers after 1 p.m., the weather service said. It will be partly sunny with a high near 83 and an east northeast wind of 3 to 6 mph.

Friday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 68 and an east wind of 5 mph becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 88 and a light southeast wind, the weather service said.

Saturday night, there will be a 30 percent chance of precipitation after 1 a.m., with a low of 73, according to the weather service.

Sunday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers before 1 p.m., with a high near 88, the weather service said.
