T-Bones lose 4-2 in 12 innings

by Luke Schrock

The Kansas City T-Bones led for seven innings Saturday, but after the Lincoln Saltdogs tied the game in the eighth, the T-Bones were unable to score again, ending in the 12th inning with a 4-2 loss on the road in Nebraska.

The T-Bones now are 35-35 this season, with the Saltdogs at 31-40.

After 12 long innings, the decision in game two went to Reese Gregory (1-0) as the winner and Kevin Hamann (1-3) as the losing pitcher.

The T-Bones offense scored first on Saltdog starting pitcher John Brownell with a 2-run inning. Shawn O’Malley hit an RBI single scoring Mason Davis. Casey Gillaspie hit a ground ball to first for an out, allowing Dylan Tice to score from third. The T-Bones were able to accrue six hits but struggled with stranding men on base.

Former T-Bone Forrestt Allday, Daniel Herrera and Cody Regis all had good days at the plate against Kansas City Saturday, all sporting two hits apiece. Everyone in the Saltdog lineup, except Curt Smith, got at least one hit.

In the eighth inning, Lincoln’s Josh Mazzola scored Cody Regis and Forrestt Allday off a single.

After the tie, T-Bones third baseman Ramsey Romano hit a big triple in the 10th inning, but neither Dylan Tice nor Mason Davis were able to bring Romano in. Throughout the extra innings, the T-Bones’ bats went cold, and eventually it was the death of the T-Bones’ series hopes.

Pitcher Kevin Hamann entered the 12th to keep up the battle, but he gave up a walk off two-run home run by Cody Regis to right field to make it a series win for Lincoln.

The T-Bones will play to avoid the sweep at 5:05 p.m. Sunday in Lincoln. The game will be on the T-Bones Broadcast Network, http://mixlr.com/t-bones-baseball/, with Dan Vaughan on the call.
