Slow start dooms T-Bones

The Kansas City T-Bones (20-20) could not overcome a slow start in Indiana Saturday night, dropping game two of a three-game series with the Gary SouthShore RailCats (18-21), 6-3.

The RailCats got on the board first with a lead of 4-0, in the bottom of the first. Alex Crosby reached on an infield single then scored on a RBI single from Will Savage. Gary would load the bases and score three more on two bases-loaded walks and a hit-by-a-pitch from T-Bones starter Erik Manoah.

Kansas City scored in the fourth inning with Dylan Tice hitting a single and advancing to first. Then later in the inning, Christian Correa advanced to first on an error by the shortstop Marcus Mooney, which allowed Tice to score, making it 4-1.

The RailCats answered in the fifth with a home run by Colin Willis, making the score, 5-1. However, the T-Bones fought back in the top of the sixth with a home run by Daniel Nava, and it was 5-2. It was Nava’s second home run of the series.

In the seventh, a single by Danny Mars allowed Shawn O’Malley to score as Kansas City cut the lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the seventh, RailCats Colin Willis hit a triple. Then, Gimenez hit a single to right field, scoring Willis and making the final score 6-3.

The winning pitcher was Jumpei Akanuma (2-0) for the Gary SouthShore RailCats, and the losing pitcher was Erik Manoah (2-1) for the Kansas City T-Bones.

The T-Bones will continue their three-game set against Gary at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, June 30, in Gary, Indiana. The game will be on the T-Bones Broadcast Network, http://mixlr.com/t-bones-baseball/.
