Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 2 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Wyandotte County until 2 a.m. Saturday.

The thunderstorm watch also is in effect in surrounding counties, the weather service said.

A storm is currently located in Colorado and in western Kansas that is moving toward the east.

Another severe thunderstorm was spotted at 7:22 p.m. over Vermillion, Kansas, moving northeast at 55 mph, according to the weather service. The Kansas City area is not in the path of that storm. Vermillion is southeast of Marysville, Kansas, in Marshall County in northeast Kansas. The thunderstorm could produce 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, with heavy rain.

Wyandotte County also is under a flood warning for the Missouri River at Parkville, which is in minor flood stage, according to the weather service.
