Two serious injuries in accident in KCK after police chase starting in Missouri ends near K-5 and 18th

A police pursuit from a Missouri law enforcement agency into Wyandotte County ended in an injury at 10:28 a.m. this morning to a driver not involved in the chase and an injury to a teen driver pursued by police.

Law enforcement officers from Missouri were chasing a 17-year-old driver when the accident happened near K-5 and 18th Street. I-635 and K-5 exits in Kansas City, Kansas, were closed after the accident.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a 42-year-old Shawnee, Kansas, woman driving a Chrysler Challenger, who was not involved in the chase, had a serious injury in the accident and was taken to a Kansas City, Kansas, hospital.

The woman in the Chrysler was hit by a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a teen that police were pursuing, the report stated.

The Malibu was exiting from K-5 to 18th Street and ran a red light, causing the Malibu to hit the Chrysler, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the Malibu, a 17-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, girl, was taken to a Kansas City, Kansas, hospital with a suspected serious injury, the trooper’s report stated. She was not wearing a seat belt, the report stated.

An 18-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, male was a passenger in the Malibu, the report stated. He also was not wearing a seat belt and had no apparent injury, the trooper’s report stated. The Malibu did not have insurance, according to the trooper’s report.
