Weather advisory issued for Wyandotte County

A cloudy sky was seen near The Legends Outlets in Kansas City, Kansas, on Saturday evening. Wyandotte County is under a significant weather advisory until 10 p.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service has issued a significant weather advisory for Wyandotte County and surrounding counties until 10 p.m. Saturday.

At 9:10 p.m., Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Pleasant Valley to near Kansas City to near Eudora, Kansas, the weather service said. The storm was moving east at 30 mph.

Nickel-size hail and wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph will be possible with these storms, according to the weather service.

Bonner Springs, Edwardsville and Kansas City, Kansas, are in the path of these storms, along with some other area cities.

Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with these storms, according to the weather service. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Residents are asked to seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

The storms could intensify, so residents should monitor local radio and television stations or a weather radio, or visit www.weather.gov, for additional information and possible warnings from the weather service.
