T-Bones lose to Milwaukee

by Harry Welsh

The T-Bones (8-10) fell Wednesday to the Milwaukee Milkmen (9-11).

Dustin Hurlbutt (0-3) started on the mound for the T-Bones. Hurlbutt gave the T-Bones a full five innings, but he struggled throughout. Milwaukee pitcher, T.J. House (3-0) went for seven, giving up only two runs and securing the win.

The Milkmen offense remained hot Wednesday, scoring three earned runs in the bottom of the first.

The T-Bones rallied to score a run in the top of the second, thanks to a Ramsey Romano hit-by-a-pitch RBI. Romano continued his day with an RBI double, scoring Dylan Tice in the top of the fourth.

The Milkmen led 3-2 after the fourth. The T-Bones’ comeback hopes were spoiled in the bottom of the fifth, giving up another four runs. The middle innings have been a significant weak spot to start the year as the T-Bones have given up 39 runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth this season alone.

The top of the sixth offered a glimmer of hope for the T-Bones with a lead-off double from Christian Correa, before three consecutive outs, stranding Correa at third.

Nick Lee entered the game in the bottom of the sixth to relieve Dustin Hurlbutt. After pitching one inning and the game being delayed half an hour, Lee was relieved by Ramsey Romano.

The Milkmen have established themselves well against the T-Bones this season, leading the overall series 4-2. Kansas City experienced early success this season before some roster changes. Since the changes, the T-Bones have struggled, going 3-7 in the last 10 games.

Despite having nine hits — two more than the Milkmen — the T-Bones could not convert. The T-Bones fell to the Milkmen 7-2 and will play Thursday, hoping to split the series.

The T-Bones will battle the Milwaukee Milkmen for the fourth day in a row on Thursday, June 6. After the Milkmen series, the T-Bones will return home for a three-game series with the Chicago Dogs.
