Pit bull ban repeal on Thursday night’s UG Commission meeting

A repeal of the ban on pit bulls is on the agenda for Thursday night’s Unified Government Commission meeting.

The repeal was passed unanimously on May 20 by the UG’s Public Works and Safety Standing Committee, and goes before the full commission at 7 p.m. on May 30.

Other items on the agenda include an amendment requiring a special use permit for new small box variety stores; an ordinance modifying regulations for vending machines and exterior sales; and a continuation of a special use permit to temporarily store motor vehicles in the parking lot at The Woodlands at 9700 Leavenworth Road.

The planning commission has recommended the small box variety store amendment be withdrawn and instead become part of the zoning code rewrite.

Also on the agenda are several planning and zoning items.

The items include:
• 300 and 302 Kansas Ave., change of zone from general industrial district to commercial district to operate a rental property, Michael Cloughley.

• 71 N. Mill St., change in previously approved stipulations for traditional neighborhood design district to remove the no alcohol stipulation, Matt Watkins with Reece Commercial Real Estate.

• 2718 N. 119th St., change of zone from county agriculture district to city agriculture district.

• 7535 Riverview Ave., renewal of special use permit for two concrete pits – sampling of a variety of pipes for training purposes, Jim Gorman with Kansas Gas Service.

• 4229 Swartz Road, special use permit for an animal shelter for up to 20 adult dogs, Heather L. Hauck with Rescue Me KC, recommended for denial.

• 1600 N. 21st St., special use permit for Air BNB, Villa Mulondayi.

• 4521 Cambridge St., renewal of special use permit for Air BNB.

• 840 Shawnee Road, renewal of a special use permit for a miniature horse.

• 3704 N. 99th St., special use permit for a commercial shop selling handmade items, gifts and antiques in a basement garage, Roberta Laird.

• 151 S. 18th St., renewal of a special use permit for live entertainment in conjunction with an existing restaurant, Dick Bryant with Richard T. Bryant and Associates.

• 765 Cheyenne Ave., special use permit for new and used auto sales, auto repair and auto detailing, Maria Elena Leal – M+Ms Auto Sales and Detail.

• 4855 Georgia Ave., home occupation special use permit for mobile welding and repair and general metal fabrication, Michael D. Yeager.

• 7751 S. 73rd St. and 1500R S. 73rd St., renewal of special use permit for a dirt fill, Ryan Denk with McAnany, Van Cleave and Phillips.

• 35 S. 7th St. Trafficway, renewal of home occupation special use permit for an Air BNB, Casey Bond.

• 3801 Leavenworth Road, special use permit to operate a liquor store with packaged liquor sales, Bryan Ruoff with 3F30 Architects.

• 403 N. 5th St., special use permit for a restaurant and drinking establishment, Corey Hamilton, Strawberry Hill Bar.

• 1601 N. 130th St., preliminary and final plan review for a classroom addition to Delaware Ridge Elementary School, Charley Sexton with HTK Architects.

• 7364 State Ave., preliminary and final plan for renovation of the existing bank, Russell Sage III with Security Bank of Kansas City.

• 3214 Strong Ave., ordinance to rezone property from planned limited business district to planned commercial district.

• 3201 Pomeroy Drive, an ordinance to rezone property from single family district to agriculture district.

• 5443 N. 101st Terrace, an ordinance to vacate a utility easement.

• BPU Barber-Rosedale transmission line, resolution declaring it to be a necessary improvement project and authorizing a survey of lands for it.

• An interlocal agreement with Johnson County to use their communications center’s existing 911 phone and radio communications equipment as emergency backup.

• 2600 W.47th Ave., plat being developed by Jones Development Co. at West 47th Avenue and Fisher Street.
