Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms over the past few days have led to saturated ground and have increased the risk of flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
Another round of heavy rain is expected again this evening into tonight, where an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain are possible. This will lead to areas of flash flooding.
In addition, storms this evening will be strong to isolated severe storms capable of gusty to damaging wind and marginally large hail, the weather service said.
A flash flood watch is in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday, May 26, in Wyandotte County.
The Missouri River in Wyandotte County currently is in minor flood stage and is forecast to go into moderate flood stage on Saturday night or Sunday morning, according to hydrology charts.
The Kansas River in Wyandotte County is currently in minor flood stage.
Today, a slight, 20 percent, chance of showers and thunderstorms are in the Wyandotte County forecast after 4 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. The high will be near 81 with a south southwest wind of 10 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 26 mph.
Tonight, there is a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11 p.m., according to the weather service. Some of the storms may produce heavy rain. The low will be around 65 with a south southwest wind of 7 to 11 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph. Between three-quarters and one inch of rain is possible.
Sunday, there is a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 p.m., the weather service said. Some storms may produce heavy rain. The high will be 81 with a south wind of 6 to 9 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.
