A flood advisory for urban and small streams is in effect until 7:45 p.m. Saturday for Wyandotte County and some surrounding counties, according to the National Weather Service.
At 1:50 p.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms that will cause urban and small stream flooding, according to the weather service. Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in the area.
Up to 2 inches of rain already has fallen and additional heavy rain is expected this afternoon, the weather service said.
Residents were advised to turn around and not try to drive through flooded roads.
Also, a flood warning has been issued for the Missouri River at Parkville, affecting Wyandotte County, the weather service said. The flood warning will be in effect from Monday evening to Friday evening.
At 9:45 a.m. Saturday, the Missouri River at Parkville was 21.8 feet where flood stage is 25 feet. Minor flooding is forecast. The river was about 21.74 feet at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, according to hydrology charts.
The river may rise above flood stage at that location by Monday before midnight and continue to rise to near 27.1 feet by early Wednesday morning, according to the weather service. The river will fall below flood stage by Thursday before midnight.
