‘Underdog’ Chastain wins truck series race at Kansas Speedway
In what has to be considered a sentimental win, Ross Chastain won the Digital Ally 250 Friday night, his first win in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series and at Kansas Speedway.
“Winning is hard to do,” Chastain said. “Sports is about the underdog, and we’ve been called the underdog for a while and I want to stop being called that. This is all that I’ve wanted since I started racing when I was 12. It hasn’t always been easy for this team but I just want to be successful.”
For Chastain, the victory is his first in 2019 and seventh top-10 finish. It’s also Chastain’s first top-10 finish at Kansas Speedway.
“On the final restart, we were tight and all I thought was that I wouldn’t be able to pass Stewart Friesen, but then he ran out of gas and my spotter said ‘Don’t mess this up,’” Chastain said. “Our spotter reminded me of me saying ‘I promise if you bring me on to race, we’ll win.’ I knew we could win, I just had to prove it.”
Ben Rhodes finished second, posting his first top-10 finish in four races at Kansas Speedway. Todd Gilliland, who finished third, posted his first top-1 finish in his first race at Kansas Speedway.
After Friday night’s Digital Ally 250, Grant Enfinger leads the point standings by 13 points over Brett Moffitt.
The Digital Ally 400 is Saturday night at Kansas Speedway. Tickets are available at the Kansas Speedway Ticket Booth B, online at www.kansasspeedway.com and at 866-460-7223.
