Drier weather returns

After some Thursday morning rain and thunderstorms, drier weather is returning to the area, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy rain overnight has resulted in water forming ponds on some local roadways, meaning motorists should use caution and allow extra time when driving, the weather service said.

The Missouri River at Parkville, which includes the Wyandotte County area, has risen to the action stage, and is still below flood stage, according to the weather service.

Today will be cool, with a high near 62, the weather service said, and a north northeast wind of 9 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 21 mph.

Tonight, there is a slight, 20 percent chance of showers after 3 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 52 with an east northeast wind of 5 to 7 mph.

Friday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers, mainly before 2 p.m., with a high near 61, the weather service said, and an east northeast wind of 5 to 7 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is in the forecast.

Friday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers before 8 p.m., with a low of 47 and a northeast wind of 5 to 9 mph becoming light north northeast, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 71 and a north wind of 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 52, according to the weather service.
