High wind warning issued

Wyandotte County is under a high wind warning from 11:19 a.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service said wind gusts could reach 45 to 60 mph this afternoon and evening in the region.

As the strong storm system moves through the area, southerly winds will become very strong, the weather service said.

Tree branches could break under the strong winds, and the combination of strong winds and wet ground could uproot some trees.

Occasional gusts to 55 mph are possible this morning, then more frequent gusts to 60 mph are expected this afternoon, according to the weather service.

Strong winds will continue tonight and Thursday, but should be less intense than conditions expected today.

South winds at 25 to 40 mph with gusts approaching 60 mph are possible today, then south winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph will be tonight through Thursday.

The weather service said travel along east to west roadways will be very difficult. High-profile vehicles and trailers may experience difficulty with the high winds.
