High winds today as more rain in the forecast

Wyandotte County is under a wind advisory from 10 a.m. today through 10 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong wind gusts atop wet surfaces could cause tree or structural damage, the weather service said. Small tree branches could break, and with the wet ground, some trees could be uprooted.

Motorists also should be careful driving in high winds. Travel on east to west highways in high-profile vehicles can be difficult today.

Ongoing river flooding will continue through the next several days in the region, according to the weather service. At this time, Wyandotte County is not under any river flooding watches or warnings. Some areas to the north and east in the region are experiencing flooding.

Rain and thunderstorms are in today’s forecast, mainly before 3 p.m., the weather service said, and today’s high will be 62.

A south wind of 11 to 16 mph will increase to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon, and gust as high as 46 mph, according to the weather service. The area may receive from a quarter to a half-inch of rain.

Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 42 and a south wind of 21 to 24 mph, gusting as high as 38 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m., with a high near 45, the weather service said. A west wind of 21 to 23 mph will gust as high as 39 mph.

Thursday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers before 1 a.m., with a low of 30, according to the weather service. A west northwest wind of 15 to 20 mph will gust as high as 34 mph.

Friday, it will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 44, the weather service said. A northwest wind of 15 mph will gust as high as 26 mph.

Friday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 26, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny with a high near 50, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 34, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny, with a high near 52, the weather service said.
