Two command staff promotions have been announced at the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.
Assistant Chief Pam Waldeck will be promoted to deputy chief, and Capt. Raymond Nunez will be promoted to major.
Waldeck is the Police Department’s first female deputy chief.
Serving the community since 1997, Waldeck has worked in patrol, DEA Task Force, child abuse and internal affairs.
She was promoted to major in 2017 and has served as the assistant chief to the chief of police since then.
Waldeck has received two bronze awards from the KC Metro Chief and Sheriffs Association and the Guardian of Justice Award from the U.S. attorney general’s office.
Waldeck helped launch the PEER Support Team, which has been instrumental in helping officers maintain good mental health.
She is a graduate of Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police. She is working on her master’s degree at Baker University and will graduate in June of this year.
Nunez has served since 2000, working in patrol, narcotics, tactical team and the night response unit.
He was promoted to captain in 2016, and has served as the commander of the Violent Crimes Task Force and as a commander in the Bureau of Operation.
Nunez has a bachelor’s degree from Washburn University. He is also a graduate of the Law Enforcement Leadership Academy Command School and has a Certificate of Public Administration from the University of Kansas Public Management Center.
