KCKCC’s Ratliff, Slaughter named to All-Region cage teams

Sophomore Arother Ratliff and freshman Calvin Slaughter have earned berths on the All-Region VI Division II basketball team for 2018-2019.

A 6-5 forward from Greenwood, Mississippi, Ratliff was named to the second team; Slaughter, a 6-2 guard from Macon, Georgia, was named to the third team in voting by conference coaches.

Ratliff finished second in scoring for the Blue Devils with a 9.3-point average and led the team in 3-point shooting percentage, knocking down 38 of 92 for 41.3 percent. Ratliff also shot 46.7 percent from the field, averaged 4.0 rebounds a game and led the team in blocks with 17.

Slaughter led the Blue Devils in scoring with 9.8 points a game and was second in rebounding (5.0) and assists (1.6). Starting in 26 of 28 games, he shot 75 percent from the free throw line and 38.5 percent from the field.

Highland’s Jerre Cole was voted Coach of the Year while co-champions Johnson County and Highland each placed two players on the first team. Sophomore Teiveyhon Mason of Highland was named Player of the Year; JCCC’s David Turner Defensive Player of the Year; and Kondre Kennedy of Labette Freshman of the Year. All were named to the first team along with Nick Larkin of JCCC and Tristen Hull of Highland.

Hesston’s Cal Hartley, JCCC’s General Williams and Fort Scott’s Craig Jordan and Andre Nelson joined Ratliff on the second team while Labette’s George Price, JCCC’s JaQuaylon Mays and Highland’s Jaquan Daniels and Andre Jackson were on the third team with Slaughter.
