A winter weather advisory has been extended until noon Wednesday in Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.
Light freezing drizzle is possible through the morning commute, the weather service said. While some areas of Wyandotte County did not seem affected by ice, the area remains under the winter weather advisory until noon. There was a small glaze of ice on windshields of vehicles left outdoors overnight in some areas of Wyandotte County.
Temperatures will continue to fall through the mid-morning, with little improvement expected with existing slick surfaces, until roads begin to dry as precipitation comes to an end, according to the weather service.
Elevated surfaces and secondary roadways will be the most likely to see continued slick surfaces through the mid to late morning hours, according to the weather service.
In some areas of Kansas City, Missouri, parts of I-70 have been closed because of ice. At 8 a.m., there were more accidents reported on the highways on the Missouri side of the state line than in Kansas.
Schools have changed their schedules because of the icy weather.
RideKC bus service and paratransit service was suspended Wednesday morning until 11 a.m.
Today, there is a chance of flurries before 1 p.m., with a high near 25 and a north wind of 8 to 11 mph, the weather service said.
Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 14 and a north wind of 6 to 11 mph, according to the weather service.
Thursday, the high will be near 29 with a north wind of 3 to 6 mph, the weather service said.
Thursday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 19 and a north wind of 5 mph, becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.
Friday, it will be partly sunny with a high of 41, and a light and variable wind becoming south southeast around 6 mph, the weather service said.
Friday night, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 19, according to the weather service.
Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of snow before noon, with a high near 26, the weather service said.
Saturday night, there is a 50 percent chance of snow after midnight, with a low of about 10, according to the weather service.
Sunday, there is a 60 percent chance of snow before noon, with a high near 16, the weather service said.
Sunday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 3, according to the weather service.
Monday, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 22, the weather service said.
Monday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 9, according to the weather service.
