Children reported safe after being taken in carjacked vehicle

Two children have been reported safe after they were in a vehicle that was stolen just after 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in the 1500 block of Freeman Avenue, according to police.

The victim was making a delivery in the area when a male suspect, armed with a rifle, took the victim’s vehicle, a police spokesman stated. In the vehicle were two children, ages 4 and 7.

A short time later, the children were found by another resident who gave them shelter and called police, the police spokesman stated. The children were not injured and were returned to their mother, the spokesman stated.

The suspect then returned to the scene, leaving the original vehicle, police said. The suspect walked away and then carjacked a different vehicle, this time pointing his rifle at the second victim, police said.

The suspect has since been taken into custody and the vehicle recovered, police stated. No injuries were reported during either event.
